| Report | Sunday 11th November 2007 – Morpeth Ladies II v Tynedale 1 Morpeth Ladies II were drawn against Tynedale I for the first time this season in the league competition. It was not, however the first encounter this season, as Morpeth had already lost out to Tynedale in the final of the Hazelwood tournament at the beginning of the season. As a result of this early loss Morpeth were determined not to let history repeat itself and were fired up for the game. Morpeth had the supporters on their side fresh from the previous game, and went into the game confident to gain another win under their belt. From the off Morpeth looked strong in attack and were creating problems for the Tynedale defence, leaving them stretched at the back. A number of missed shots left Morpeth a little frustrated not to have gained anything from their strong attaching play. Tynedale were also creating dangerous quick breaks at the other end putting Morpeth’s defence under a bit of pressure. Stand in goalkeeper Jenny Pattison made a number of excellent saves to keep a clean sheet for the whole of the first half. The first goal of the game went in Morpeth’s favour from a perfectly connected strike at the top of the circle off the stick of Laura Heaton. Morpeth were able to maintain this lead for the remainder of the second half. The second half started before Morpeth could get organised, and within 2 minutes Tynedale has put one past the Morpeth defence to level the score. This gave Morpeth a much needed kick start and they quickly regained their composure and organisation in defence. A few changes were made to the Morpeth side to rest some tired legs which has a positive impact on the game. It was not long before Morpeth regained the lead at the hands of Arran O’Mahony. She showed great composure as she picked up the ball in space, drove into the circle drawing the keeper out, wrong footer her and putting it past her to score a stunning goal. It was also Arran who created the next goal as she took the ball round
the defence on the right hand side, crossed it in for Alison Oldam to
get on the end of, to put Morpeth two goals clear. The game finished 3-1
in Morpeth’s favour rounding off a very successful day for Morpeth
Ladies Hockey Club. Jenny Pattison was awarded ‘player of the match’
for her outstanding performance in goal, playing out of her normal position.
Arran O’Mahony was also commended for her domination up front and
was awarded ‘player of the match’ by the opposition.
